Beware of Census Scammers: National Population Commission Warns Against Fraudsters

NATIONAL POPULATION COMMISSION WARNS AGAINST CENSUS FRAUDSTERS

The National Population Commission (NPC) in Benue state has warned against the activities of surrogates, fraudsters, and unscrupulous elements who are extorting money from applicants hoping to participate in the 2023 Population and Housing Census. The commission received several complaints from individuals alleging that they were being asked for money to approve their applications on the portal.

In a statement released on March 25th, the commission disassociated itself from the act, stating that it is not aware of nor involved in such arrangements. The commission reiterated its commitment to conducting a digital, credible, accurate, reliable, acceptable, verifiable, and sustainable census. The commission also urged victims of the fraudsters to come forward with evidence to enable them to deal with the culprits appropriately.
Furthermore, the commission advised members of the public to avoid giving money to anybody or business center operators in exchange for assistance or approval of their applications on the portal. The screening and approval of applicants on the portal is free of charge and without encumbrances. The public is encouraged to report any person requesting money in the guise of census recruitment to the nearest police station or any law enforcement agency close to them.
The state director for Honorable Fed, Tarkumbur Nege Ag, signed the statement, and all correspondence should be addressed to the Honorable Fed Commissioner. The National Population Commission is working hard to ensure that the 2023 Population and Housing Census is credible and accurately represents the population of Nigeria. The commission encourages everyone to participate in the census without fear of fraudsters or any other form of harassment.
