Committee Investigates Controversial JAMB Score: Student Admits to Manipulating Results

In response to the strong reaction caused by the recent announcement of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) scores, the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. C.C Soludo, set up a group of people called the Committee of Inquiry to deal with the controversy surrounding Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma's JAMB score. Mmesoma, a 19-year-old student from Enugu State, claimed that she received 362 marks, which is higher than the official highest score of 360. The State Government created the committee to thoroughly investigate the matter and provide recommendations based on their findings.

The committee, composed of respected education officials and experts, held a meeting with Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma, the principal of Anglican Girls' Secondary School, and officials from JAMB. Dr. Fabian Benjamin, in charge of Public Affairs at JAMB, provided detailed information about how JAMB handles admissions, policy changes since 2021, and specifically addressed Mmesoma's case and her desire to know her JAMB score.

During the meeting, JAMB officials revealed that Mmesoma had requested her results multiple times through the JAMB website. On each occasion (four times in total), she received the same results, which showed a total score of 249 and subject scores in English, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry. However, Mmesoma presented different results, claiming that her total score was 362 with significantly higher subject scores. JAMB officials noticed several suspicious elements, including differences in the registration number, date of birth, and exam center name, which suggested tampering with the results. Mmesoma admitted to altering her results and agreed with the JAMB officials' explanation of the events.

After conducting an investigation, the committee concluded that Mmesoma's authentic JAMB score was 249, as announced by JAMB. The results she presented, with a total score of 362, were proven to be fraudulent due to significant variations in the registration number, date of birth, exam center name, and other violations. The head of Anglican Girls' Secondary School, Mrs. Edu Uche, and the Education Secretary of the Diocese of Nnewi expressed their disappointment with Mmesoma's actions. The committee made several recommendations, including a written apology from Mmesoma to JAMB, the school, and the Anambra State Government. Additionally, they advised that Mmesoma undergo psychological counseling and therapy. The committee emphasized the importance of all candidates adhering closely to JAMB's rules and procedures.

In conclusion, the committee commended JAMB for their handling of the matter and expressed gratitude for their cooperation and provision of information during the investigation. They hoped that exposing the truth would clarify the misunderstandings and falsehoods surrounding the controversy. The committee acknowledged the decision of the Governor of Anambra State to establish the inquiry and thanked him for placing trust in them.
