In a shocking and controversial move, the pastor of House On The Rock church in Abuja took to the pulpit on Sunday armed with an AK-47 rifle. During his live service, the pastor, whose identity has not been released, preached to the congregation while holding the weapon.
The pastor was seen holding the weapon and using it as a prop while delivering his sermon to the congregation. The sight of a man of God wielding a deadly weapon inside a house of worship sparked immediate concerns for the safety of churchgoers and the general public.
Meanwhile, some social media commentators have taken the display to be a sign of self defense with respect to the current insecurities happening in the country, even in the church. We can recall that, few years ago, a church was invaded by unknown hoodlums cum gunmen which took the lives of many faithfuls at that period.
The pastor's motives for carrying the weapon during the service are currently unknown, and it is not clear if any legal action will be taken against him. The House On The Rock church has yet to release a statement on the matter.
